Days of Lithuania in Dnipro

On May 27-29 of the current year a large-scale event was held in Dnipro. For the first time Days of Lithuania is celebrated in our city. The program of events included: exhibition and presentation of Lithuanian culture, traditional crafts, ethnic cuisine and Lithuanian-Ukrainian business forum.

Thus, on May 27, 2016 Days of Lithuania started with the official meeting of the foreign delegation with the leadership of the region. It was talked about cooperation, including entering of regional businessmen into European market. In recent years, relations between Dnipro and Lithuania reached a new level. Regional leaders assured that oblast is ready to crank up cooperation between the countries in future.

On the occasion of the Days of Lithuania was organized a business forum on the topic of "Ukraine is a country of modernized cities safety and comfortable for living, tourism and business" dedicated to cooperation between Ukrainian and Lithuanian businesses in the sectors of education, environment, software development, tourism business trade, agriculture, construction and architecture. Investors from Lithuania, government officials and more than hundred enterprises of Dnipro discussed the prospects of international cooperation. Business Forum program included work in sectoral seminars on stated areas, in which exchange of business contacts was held. Dnipro businessmen have had a rare opportunity to network and share experiences with leading Lithuanian companies that visited our city with the express purpose.

The highlight of the business forum was signing of a memorandum between Dnipropetrovsk City Council, represented by the Mayor, Boris Filatov and Yurius Rodzyavychyus, President of the Eastern Europe Partnership and Investment Association. Whereby side will actively promote the expansion of existing and installation new direct business contacts between enterprises, organizations, companies and entrepreneurs of Dnipropetrovsk and Lithuania.

At the end of the day Vitaliy Pivnyak, Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Dnipropetrovsk, invited all Catholics of the city and official delegation to visit Dnepropetrovsk Roman Catholic Church in order to participate in divine peace service.

The extensive program of familiarization with the Lithuanian culture began on May 28, which included the fair of Lithuanian cuisine, with such national dishes as soup, šakotis, dumplings, pancakes, sausage with cabbage, meats, cheeses, Lithuanian beer, kvass and so on. Craftsmen from the Association of Lithuanian craft "Svente Visiems" presented traditional crafts: pottery, wood, etc. Also Lithuanian cultural and business center "Gintaras" presented the exhibition of Lithuanian national costumes.

 

At the same time, the official opening of the Days of Lithuania was held at Festival pier in Sicheslav Embankment with the participation of Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of Lithuanian Republic Seimas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania Marius Yanukonis, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional council Gleb Prygunov, Deputy Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration Oleg Kuzhman and city mayor Boris Filatov.

 

With the support of leader of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Dnipropetrovsk, series of meetings of Lithuanian Seimas Spiker were organized, namely with representatives of the Lithuanian diaspora, leadership of the Mechnikov Regional Clinical Hospital. There was exploring with modern Lithuanian exhibition "Photo-Video-Media Textiles" at the Dnepropetrovsk art museum, meeting and discussion on the topic of "Lithuania – Ukraine in the EU" with the students of the National Mining University. At the end of the day, Ms. Loreta Graužinienė and other parliamentarians acquainted with the work and life of the basketball school "Dnepr".

On May 29 officials headed by Seimas Speaker moved to Petrykivka, in this amazing corner of Dnipropetrovsk, where national traditions of Ukrainian painting authentic culture are preserved, in order to see the Petrykivka painting, recognized by UNESCO world heritage committee (2013) and many others.
