On September, 25 in Dniepropetrovsk was held the extraordinary sitting of “Literary salon” at First Slavic teachers Kyryl and Mefodii universal scientific regional library on the occasion of 100 years anniversary of French writer Romain Gary (Kaсew) birth. The Head of Lithuanian Cultural Center Galyna Khmil -Dunai made a report “Vilnius date”.
R.Gary was born in May 8, 1914 in Vilnius that it was Polish territory at that time. He spent his childhood in Lithuania, Vilnius and some time in his mother’s native town Švenčionys – where was born and matured a person of the future diplomat, public figure and famous writer – twice Prix Goncourt winner .
During the speech, Galyna Khmil-Dunai acquainted the audience with the book’s point, which was financed and published by Vilnius fans club of R.Gary writing on the occasion of 100 years anniversary of writer’s birth. The activities of Vilnius R.Gary fans club has been tirelessly worked by Lithuanian actor Romualdas Ramanauskas. This summer he has presented the book “Vilnius novel” to Dniepropetrovsk club. The book contents a number of documents about the exactly place of Gary’s birth (metrical note in Vilnius Synagogue register book ), postcards with view of Vilnius, photos of household items, posters, newspaper ads of the period, when writer’s family had been living in Vilnius.
