The winner of the presidential elections in Lithuania, which passed on Sunday on May 25, 2014, was Dalia Grybauskaite. This is the first time in the modern history of this country when the current leader is elected for a second term.
The result of Grybauskaite was about 57% of the vote.
The Lithuanian President called her own re-election for the second term as the historic victory.
"I take this election’s result as a huge commitment and obligation to all of you. For the second time in a row, Lithuania has never got a single president. It is our common historical victory"- said the president to Lithuanian National Radio and Television “Lietuvos radijo ir televizija”.
The President promised the Lithuanians to make their country even more powerful and prosperous.
Also, the press service of the President of Lithuania informed that the presidential candidate Poroshenko and Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite congratulated each other. Poroshenko congratulated Grybauskaite with the re-election to the post and she, in turn, welcomed Poroshenko with the new post of the President of Ukraine.
Grybauskaite stated that the elections in Ukraine were open and democratic, and wished Poroshenko success in stabilizing the situation in the country.
Poroshenko, in turn, thanked Grybauskaite for her consistent support of Ukraine .
Lithuanian President also expressed its intention to participate in the Poroshenko inauguration in early June.
The official results of the presidential elections in Ukraine has not been announced yet.
