On December 6, 2017 the rector of Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas), professor Juozas Augutis, with his spouse Elvira Augustine visited Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Dnipro. They were accompanied by the rector of National Mining University ("Dnipro Polytechnic Institute"), academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Gennadiy Pivnyak and director of Academic Cooperation Center with Baltic States of National Mining University, associate professor Bogdan Gal. The visit has concluded a large three-day programme of negotiations with the leadership of National Mining University and festivities, attended by rector Yuozas Augustis.
At one time, Honorary Consul Vitaliy Pivnyak initiated cooperation between the higher educational institutions of two countries. And today, just a year and a half ago, the parties have discussed an open joint educational programme for bachelor's studies (World Politics and Economics), as well as cooperation in the field of exchange of students and teachers.
During the visit, on December 5, a bilateral long-term agreement was signed, which envisages the implementation of the programme of joint masters training ("Management in education"), as well as laying the groundwork for perspective educational and scientific cooperation. Now, signing a similar agreement on the establishment of a joint program of training for masters in the specialty "International business law" is planning.
During the Academic council meeting of NMU, the rector, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Gennadiy Pivnyak presented a diploma and mantle of the Honorary Doctor of the NMU to Lithuanian colleague. In response, Juozas Augutis took an oath of Honorary Doctorate of NMU and has lectured on an extremely interesting inauguration lecture on the historical roots and prospects of Ukrainian-Lithuanian relations.
On December 6, the issues of deepening of educational and scientific cooperation was discussed with Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Dnipro Vitaliy Pivnyak. The rector, Juozas Augutis, invited his partners from Dnipro and, above all, historians and political scientists to take part in the large-scale events planned in Kaunas next year on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania.
Honorary Consul Vitaliy Pivnyak promised support for all promising joint projects of educators and scientists of the two countries and encouraged them to further cooperation.
