On February 16th, 2016 a delegation of representatives of the diplomatic quarters and academic circles of Lithuania arrived in Dnipropetrovsk region. The delegation consists of Marius Yanukonis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Ukraine and Lyekis Sarunas, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy of Vytautas Magnus University.

Lithuanians celebrate their main national holiday – Day of Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence exactly on this day. So a visit to Dnipropetrovsk on so important day for all Lithuanians is a sign of great respect from friendly people to Ukraine. Currently, Lithuania is one of the most active lobbyists of interests and Ukrainian sovereign rights in the European Parliament and the Council of Europe against the backdrop of external aggression, which is one of the obstacles to full membership in the European Union.
The goal of visit was to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation, including the region of science and education. Particularly there was discussed an issue of the possibility of foreign students exchange between our countries.
Under the auspices of Vitaliy Pivnyak, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Dnipropetrovsk, the meeting with the members of the delegation and Oleg Kuzhman, the Deputy Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, Borys Filatov, Dnipropetrovsk Mayor, Gennadiy Pivnyak, rector of the National Mining University and Mykola Polyakov, rector of Dnipropetrovsk Honchar National University was hold.
Deputy Head of the RSA mentioned programs of cooperation which are already implemented between Lithuania and Ukraine. He expressed gratitude for the series of trainings conducted by Lithuanian experts for our volunteers and medical workers and also for assistance in medicines and ambulance for Dnipropetrovsk Mechnikov Regional Clinical Hospital, which usually takes the first wounded in action from the front. Also he mentioned about the program of ATO’s fighters (medical and psychological rehabilitation), the children’s treatment and teaching displaced children projects. Oleg Kuzhman said that Dnipropetrovsk region is interested in holding such events in the future and is open for further cooperation.

In turn, Marius Yanukonis stressed that cooperation among Lithuania and Ukraine is very valuable and he has noted that this year is the 25th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between our countries. "This collaboration really runs like clockwork" – the Ambassador said.

Memorable gift to high delegation from the leadership of the RSA
In the course of the talks with Borys Filatov, the Head of City Council, the parties discussed possibilities of cooperation in the cultural field. Lithuanian Days in Dnipropetrovsk is going to hold on 27 – 29 May, 2016 and the Youth EuroAtlantic Security Forum (4-5 April 2016). Borys Filatov has promised his full support to future joint projects.

At the meeting of delegation with Gennadiy Pivnyak, the rector of the National Mining University and Mykola Polyakov, Dnipropetrovsk Honchar National University, the sides discussed issues of cooperation between higher education institutions, including the possibility of contract formation, the student exchange, students’ and faculty members’ internship at Kaunas University, publications in scientific journals and joint scientific conferences.
