During the official visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi to the Republic of Lithuania, First Lady Olena Zelenska met with Ukrainian children studying at Vilnius Lithuanian House international school.
For almost a month, 15 Ukrainian boys and girls have been participating in a charity programme of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. The support programme has been operating since 2014. During this time, 75 Ukrainian children were admitted to study and rehabilitation.
The children have a rich educational programme focused on familiarizing themselves with local culture, history and architecture. Every day they participate in various workshops, charity fairs, thematic meetings, interact with high-ranking officials and diplomats.
"I thank Lithuania for what it does for our children. But Ukraine also cares for you. I know you have an opportunity to stay here after a year of study. But I sincerely want you to come home and know that you are waited for there. And we will do everything to make you feel comfortable and at home in Ukraine – in any region,” Olena Zelenska addressed to the children of Ukrainian class.
The school was also visited by the wife of the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Diana Nausėdienė. The first ladies were pleased to note that the Ukrainian students met them wearing embroideries.
“I am very pleased to see that all of you are with Ukrainian identity. I wish you to keep in touch with your home in the future,” Diana Nausėdienė said.
In the evening, the Ukrainian diaspora, as well as the children of Ukrainian class met President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi at the monument to T. Shevchenko. The Head of State asked the children about their educational success. He expressed his hope that young Ukrainians would come back to their homeland.
Also, during his official visit to the Republic of Lithuania, Volodymyr Zelenskyi talked with military personnel – the participants of ATO/JFO, who are undergoing rehabilitation after injuries in Vilnius.
