7TH CONVENTION OF HONORARY CONSULS OF THE REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA

On the 2 nd of July in Vilnius more than 100 participants from 67 countries have met for 7 th convention of Honorary Consuls of Lithuania. In the morning they arrived to the Presidential Palace for the meeting with H.E. President of the Republic of Lithuania Ms. Dalia Grybauskaitė.

The next meeting was with H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Linas Linkevičius. According to the program there were the discussions with the Prime Minister, the Cabinet Minister representatives on the topic of outlook for Lithuania’s foreign policy, European hub for financial services, assistance of Lithuanian citizens abroad, development of cultural diplomacy, guidelines for diaspora police and so on. In the evening there was the reception hosted by H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Linas Linkevičius at Belmontas entertainment and leisure center.

There was the cultural program for the spouses of Honorary Consuls with visiting the open-air ethnographic museum Rumsiskes.

 

On these days the Lithuanian Song Festival started in Vilnius dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Lithuania's independence.

An event involving world Lithuanians and Lithuania's ethnic communities took place in the Town Hall Square in central Vilnius on Sunday, and a rock opera was performed in Vingis Park.

Over 12,000 people are set to take part in the festival's main events in Vingis Park on Jul 6.

The Folklore Day in Tuesday will be dedicated to Lithuania's outstanding statesmen, especially Jonas Basanavičius, chairman of the Council of Lithuania which signed the independence act on Feb. 16, 1918. On Wednesday, a symbolic rye field will be set up in Kalnai Park (the Hill Park) and twenty pregnant women will cross it. All in all, 36,000 people are expected to take part in the festival, the organizers say. And the audience will be at least ten times bigger.
