VITALIY PIVNYAK MET WITH CONSUL GENERAL OF GERMANY

On January 17, 2020, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Dnipro hosted a meeting between Honorary Consul Vitaliy Pivnyak and Dr. Stefan Kyle, the newly appointed Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Donetsk, whose office is temporarily located in Dnipro.

The meeting focused on the economy of the region, improvement of the investment climate and support for foreign investors. The diplomats also exchanged views on the prospects for resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine as well as the role of representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps and also, international organizations in supporting the peace process.

Dr. Stefan Kyle said that the Consulate General in Donetsk, established in 2009, was forced to cease operations in May 2014 at its original location. However, the name The Consulate General in Donetsk is still preserved as a sign of close association with the city. The Consul General stressed that the current focus of the Consulate General is to provide humanitarian aid, gather information about events in the east of the country, and undoubtedly to attract investment to the German consular district. “Unfortunately, we cannot help people in the areas not controlled by the Ukrainian government. Only indirectly by participating in international community actions or by supporting local organizations, ”said the Consul General.

Vitaliy Pivnyak, in his turn, noted that the Honorary Consulate is open to dialogue and cooperation with the local diplomatic corps of the Federal Republic of Germany, ready to assist in issues that can be resolved through joint efforts. He expressed gratitude for the position of official Berlin on Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as for all assistance provided during the anti-terrorist operation.

World experience shows that increase in efficiency in achieving common goals is possible through cooperation and sharing of experience. Therefore, the parties agreed on further cooperation and further development of economic, cultural, scientific relations between Germany, Dnipropetrovsk region and the Republic of Lithuania.
