The reception was attended by: the command of the military units of the region who actively assisted in preparation of all the necessary documents to enable soldiers to travel to the European Union, advisers of the patronage service of the Regional State Administration, some Ukrainian volunteers, the leadership of regional hospitals, Defense Attaché of the United States Embassy, UNIFIER mission delegation and also the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who participated in the antiterrorist operation and were rehabilitated at the Center of the Military Medical Service of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Lithuania (Druskininkai city). Lithuania is traditionally considered to be the closest friend of Ukraine in the EU and proves it not just by its uncompromising diplomatic attitude. The Lithuanian government was one of the first who responded to Ukraine's request for assistance and provided its resources for the treatment and rehabilitation of soldiers wounded in the east. Moreover, it was Dnipropetrovsk region who sent the first Ukrainian soldiers to Lithuania, at present their number exceeds 120 people. Therefore Richardas Lanauskas, Head of the Rehabilitation Center, Dalia Yodinene, the Chief of the treatment department of the Military Rehabilitation Center and Ramunas Sherparauskas, specialist of the Center were among the honored guests of the event.
The leadership of the Rehabilitation Center is worthy of note as it managed to create a very pleasant moral and psychological atmosphere. Furthemore, they have started the tradition of Ukrainian servicemen’s arrival and departure – on the main administrative building of the Center to raise two flags: Lithuanian and Ukrainian, which wordlessly demonstrates the unity and cooperation of our countries and peoples. At the invitation of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania Martynas Martsenkavičius arrived, an authoritative person in the sphere of health care, both in Lithuania and Ukraine. It is worth recalling that due to the efforts of his team, a powerful base of psychosocial rehabilitation was created in Dnipropetrovsk region, which became the most effective means of helping fighters in overcoming post-traumatic stress disorder. What is more, on his initiative a new training project for medical staff of Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions is being prepared for implementation.
On this day, the head of Dnipropetrovsk regional council Glib Prygunov and the first deputy of the governor of Dnipropetrovsk region Oleg Kuzhman came to extend their respect and gratitude to the Lithuanian diplomatic corps and representatives of the medical community.
