On April, 18, 2017 acting Minister of Health of Ukraine Uliana Suprun, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Marius Janukonis met with representatives of medical sphere of Lithuania in the Embassy of Lithuania. The meeting was devoted to the major project of the Lithuanian development cooperation programme.
In 2015-2017 Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania and Vilnius Center for Mental Health have successfully completed project on Aid for Ukrainian Eastern Regions in reforming the system of mental healthcare and pursuing the reformation of the psychosocial rehabilitation sector in Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions.
This pilot project in two regions has marked the practical implementation of the reform in the sphere of the health care towards the "Psychosocial rehabilitation" in accordance with the norms and standards of the European Union. The Lithuanian delegation headed by Arvydas Skorupskas, former advisor to the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania, visited Ukraine not only to summarize this project, but also for presenting plans of new programme for 2017.
Martynas Martsenkevichyus, the chief project manager, said that Dnipropetrovsk region’s doctors fully adopted the experience of the Lithuanian colleagues and have proved that complex rehabilitation is the most successful method, namely combination of medical, psychological and social treatment. We have taught Dnipropetrovsk social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and other specialists how to work in team. So they will be able to provide efficient aid to the ATO warriors».
"The main achievement of the reform is a transition to a system," – emphasizes Olga Gorb, the adviser to the Head of Dnipropetrovsk RSA. The treatment protocols and guidelines for the ATO fighters who need the help in psychosocial adaptation were established, so treatment has become integrated and consistent.
She said in her Dnipropetrovsk region' report, "The project has been in operation for two years and already produced some impressive results owing to the Lithuania Republic’s caring about the horrors which are now happening in Ukraine. Due to its relentless help and continuous participation in stabilizing the situation on all the levels and in all the spheres affected by the war, Ukraine has managed to reach a new higher level. Lithuania helped us in our striving for meeting the demands of Europe norms and standards through its assistance in solving urgent problems doing with the hostilities in the East of Ukraine. Thanks to the new knowledge, idea and experience there has been created a powerful rehabilitation base, which all Ukraine can be proud of.”
During the visit to Ukraine on April 21, the delegation of the Republic of Lithuania is to visit Dnipropetrovsk region, where the administrative and professional meeting are scheduled.
